"Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islanders" is a term for people who descend from any of the original inhabitants of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands. This libguide is dedicated to Pacific Islanders (Known as Pacificer, Pasifika, or Pasefika) and is about the beginnings of this fascinating group of people, who their ancestors were and how they arrived there, and how interaction with other people groups has influenced them in the present age. The Pacific Ocean, which covers more than a third of our planet's surface, is a site of wonder and mystery, but it also includes some of the world's greatest riddles.
The proportion of Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders with a high school diploma or higher in 2019 was 88.7 percent, compared to 93.3 percent for non-Hispanic whites. Comparatively, 23.8 percent of Native Hawaiians/Pacific Islanders had a bachelor's degree or higher, compared to 36.9 percent of whites. There are 7.4 percent of Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders with a graduate or professional degree as compared to 14.3 percent of whites. Resource
