Free Online Content

In addition to wonderful free content normally available online, a number of publishers and companies are offering free temporary access to some of their content.  Below is a mix of e-resources (in no particular order) that may help you and your students in this cov-virtual world.  Please check back as more is being added as it is discovered.  


Los Angeles Public Library -  Although all of their physical library branches are closed, LAPL has a wealth of online content available including ebooks, streaming films, audiobooks, etc.  They are also offering free online library cards.  A wonderful resource at your fingertips!

National Emergency Librarya collection of books that supports emergency remote teaching, research activities, independent scholarship, and intellectual stimulation while universities, schools, training centers, and libraries are closed.   The Internet Archive is suspending waitlists for its 1.4 million-plus books until the school year or the emergency ends. Titles include those donated by other libraries to readers who are locked out of theirs.  

Taylor and Francis Open Access Books are published across all subject areas, with strengths in Society & Social Sciences and Humanities.  Access over 300 pieces of book content in over 53 subject areas. These include content in Biology, Environment & Sustainability, Law and Engineering. Plus the Humanities and Social Science Open Archive, 250 book titles all open access!

Cambridge University Press:  "Blue Books" in History of Political Thought are all available open-access through May 31st.

Duke University Press- "Navigating the Threat of Pandemic Syllabus": freely accessible ebooks until June 1, 2020 and journal articles until October 1, 2020.​  Some of the other listed "syllabi" provide reading lists with free journal content available for a limited time.

JSTOR Public Health Journals:  participating publishers have made 26 newly released Public Health journals available for free access through June 30, 2020.  Topics addressed include Epidemiology, Health Policy and Administration, Occupational and Environmental Health, Health Equity and the Culture of Health, Aging, Bioethics, and Health Promotion.

National Center for Biotechnology Informationfree online access to ebooks and documents in life sciences and healthcare.

Open CultureLinks to free cultural and educational media including ebooks, videos, and music. 

Texas Instruments:  6 months of free online graphing calculator software

Remote Teaching Resources for Business Continuity:  links to information on how individual college & university campuses are handling the COVID-19 crisis, along with shared resources/guidance for online teaching.

Nursing Simulation Resources:

 

Classical Communications Database of LiveStreams:   links to live classical music performances on the Internet.
